Post 4: Rhetorical analysis doc 2
My goal is to persuade an undecided college freshman to choose aviation maintenance technology as his/her major. During the essay, I will list the benefits of selecting this major and how those benefits will affect them later in their career. The essay's exigence is that the undecided college student needs to choose a major. The audience with whom I am writing this essay is the aforementioned undecided college students. Many freshman college students are uncertain of what career they desire and what skills they will need to develop to be successful in their careers. Therefore, I believe it imperative that freshmen be made aware of the various options and opportunities available to them. Lastly, the constraints of this essay will be that it must, at minimum, be 1000 words and argue for my major. These three ideas are exigence, audience, and constraints; they establish context within this rhetorical situation. Laura Bolin Carroll, author of Backpacks vs. Briefcases: Steps toward Rhetorical Analysis, states: "In an article called “The Rhetorical Situation,” Lloyd Bitzer argues that there are three parts to understanding the context of a rhetorical moment: exigence, audience, and constraints"(Carroll 48). Exigence is the problem or situation, the audience to whom the writing is addressed, and the constraints are the limits imposed on the writing.

ReplyDeleteKrischeon,
ReplyDeleteGood blog, I have been working in aircraft maintenance for many years now and have found it to be a very rewarding career. Their are so many options as an AMT, you can go commercial, private, corporate and choose engines, Sheetmetal, avionics or airframe as your field of expertise. Lots of options and opportunities. I wish you the best of luck and maybe some day I will see you on the tarmac.
Hello, Krischeon. I may not be familiar with aircraft maintenance, but my dad was a mechanic in the Air Force while I was growing up and even served overseas. He used to bring me home toy airplanes and I was always fascinated with them, and while I don't have much interest in doing it myself, I know its a great career field and I'm sure you'll make an excellent essay that would push an undeclared college student to make the jump.
